1ST Alliance with Nizam of HYDERABAD.

1799: FOURTH ANGLO MYSORE WAR.
Tippu defeated –killed: Britain took indirect  control over Mysore .(WODEYAR DYNASTY).
1800:FORT WILLIAM COLLEGE
Established on 18 August 1800 by Lord Richard Wellesley to provide instruction in  the vernacular languages of India to the civil and military officials of the East India Company. 
1803-08: SECOND ANGLO MARATHA WAR
Took over Administration of  TANJORE (1799), SURAT (1800), CARNATIC (1802)
1802:TREATY of  BASSEIN.
31 DECEMBER 1802  :Pact  signed  between  EIC  & BAJI RAO II,
1802: BATTLE of POONA(YASHWANT RAO & BAJI RAO II).
To get  throne of  Poona : BAJI RAO II signed  SUBSIDIARY ALLIANCE……TREATY of  BASSEIN.

1809:Treaty of  Amristar with Ranjith Singh.

  • Company’s monopoly over trade in India ended company retained trade with China & trade in tea.
  • Powers  of the Board of control-further enlarged.
  • State took responsibility for education.

1813-1823:LORD HASTINGS


  •  Third maratha war:dissolution of Maratha Confideracy.
  • 1820:Ryotwari system
Settlement made by government  directly with cultivator(Ryot).


1823-1828:LORD AMHERST
  • 1824-1826: First Burmese war.
  • 1826:          Capture of Bharatpur.
